Privacy policy
What Joe knows (and doesn’t).
Plain-language privacy policy. Joe is earnest, not nosy.
Last updated: October 2026. LinksForJoe is an editorial outreach campaign. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how to get it deleted.
What we collect
- Contact details of invited editors — name, work email, publication and role — gathered from publicly available sources to suggest an addition to a specific article.
- Campaign information — the article, the suggested sentence and link, and our reasoning.
- Your responses — if you tap a response button or send feedback on your invitation page.
- Usage data — page views and clicks on invitation pages, linked to an opaque invitation ID. We use PostHog for analytics with personal profiles disabled; we don’t send names, emails, personalized URLs or gift tokens to it.
- Abuse-prevention data — a salted hash of your IP address for rate limiting, and Cloudflare Turnstile when you claim a gift.
Gift fulfillment
If you choose to claim the optional coffee thank-you, we share your name and email address with our reward provider (Tremendous) solely to deliver it. Their privacy policy applies to the reward they send. You can decline the gift; nothing else changes.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell or rent personal data.
- We don’t publish invitation pages, recipient lists or your replies. Invitation pages are excluded from search engines.
- We don’t send automated bulk email from this site.
Opt-outs and deletion
Use the opt-out page or the opt-out button on your invitation and we won’t contact you again. We keep a one-way hash of your email so we can honour that. To request access to or deletion of your data, email joe@linksforjoe.com.
Retention
Campaign records are kept for as long as the campaign is active and up to 24 months afterwards, then deleted. Opt-out hashes are kept indefinitely so we keep respecting them.
